Revver is a video site that enables you to upload your video to their site and then use it on your own site or on your MySpace page for example, it is also added to Revvers online library so that anyone can view it. The site also says that once you have uploaded your video to their site they attach an ad to the end of it and every time some watches it you get paid.

Audioscrobbler is a website that works with Creative Commons. It provides you with a download that then logs and keeps track of the music and songs you listen to and then puts these into a chart within your area on the site where you have a user name. Within your area you will have charts of the most recently played songs and most played songs, and it also lets you have a journal and a list of friends.

Creative Commons is a site where you can publish your work such as videos or music and also view other peoples work. It is another site such as the BBC Creative Commons site that provides a license for people putting their work such as music or videos on to the Internet. It provides a flexible range of protection and freedom for peoples works so that no one can use it for the wrong reasons which the artist specifies.

The BBC Creative Archives also includes a license for the videos and other work that it provides, such as videos that people have uploaded. The license includes things about who can use the videos and for what purposes. I will have to include something within my website about this and who can use the videos. However, I want for my site to be used by everyone and for the videos that people upload to be able to be downloaded by anyone and used within a VJ set.

I haven’t really found much in the way of VJ blogs or resources on the Internet for VJ’s. This has made me want to produce my idea even more because I haven’t really found anything of the sort on the web. I have found a few blogs to be quite good to do with Quartz Composer and using it to VJ but this is about it. The only website I have found that enabled you to download videos for VJing was run by the BBC but has drawn to a close due to a public value test.

I have had a look at the YouTube website and as well as the Google and Yahoo sites it does remind me slightly of MySpace as you have to log in and can build up a friends list. Once you have an account and user name you can upload your video for the world to watch, the same as the Google and Yahoo sites. I think the main difference between this site and the Google and Yahoo sites is that this site is just for videos that people have produced themselves.

In relations ion to the William Gibson quote I have mentioned about the Internet being a waste of time, I don’t want my website to be a waste of time. I want to produce a project that is useful in some way. I feel that my idea will be useful though for VJs who the project is aimed at because I am providing a way of sharing videos for Vjing, a way of VJ’s to communicate around the world and also provide them with a Quartz file that will produce a VJ set from my site.

During last weeks lecture we were shown examples of database management and also operating systems web server relational database scripting language. During the lecture we were told about LAMP – LINUX, APACHE, MYSQL and PHP. I don’t have a clue about any of these but it was good to be shown and introduced to something new to get an idea of what it involves and what we can produce with them. Ian made it look very easy with what he was doing in the examples but to be honest I did get a little bit lost near the end.

I have looked at most of the students blogs from last year to see if I’m on the right track with mine and I think I am or at least I hope I am. I asked Ian to check my blog at the beginning of the module and he said it is quite personal, but this was just because the only thing I had included was my thoughts about the module. Now I have added quite a bit of research and also a few posts about my ideas and development to the one I want to produce.

I have found a few sites like this now that take you through the procedure of including maps and things within your website and that also give you the code to copy and paste. I think this is really good and I am hoping that I will be able to find a site with the scripting, code and instructions to use for some of the things I want to include within my project so I will keep looking.
